Ornamented gold columns and carved wooden panels bear witness to the former life of the Danish furniture company Paustian’s once-functioning showroom at Niels Hemmingsens Gade 24. The showroom is located in a recently renovated building, originally constructed as a bank in 1868 – a bank that has since closed – and pays homage to its decadent history with impressive details.
With vaulted doors heavy as mountains and ceilings rising more than four meters above the black-and-white marble floors, the rooms are illuminated by a magnificent skylight, offering a spatial experience rarely found in Copenhagen.
All in all, the premises represent some of the most exceptional facilities in Copenhagen – a city otherwise characterized by a relatively modest building stock. Therefore, Niels Hemmingsens Gade 24 may not be for everyone – but it is undoubtedly for those who wish to make an impression.
The lease begins with a smaller foyer, from which the elevated main hall is accessed. The ceiling height is an impressive 4 meters in both sections, allowing for the display of virtually any imaginable product.
In the main hall, several authentic bank vaults have been preserved and are now showcased behind century-old security doors. From the main hall, there is access to the staff facilities facing the building’s courtyard. Here you will find restrooms, a staff lounge, and a small office for the manager.
Centrally located in the main hall is the internal staircase to the basement, where customers can explore the retail area that houses the bank’s original safety deposit boxes and even more beautifully restored vaults – accessible through the premises’ hidden corridors.
