For almost a decade, the Hotel and Restaurant School was located on Niels Hemmingsens Gade in Copenhagen, where waiters and chefs frequented the former bank building at numbers 24-28. Half of this, specifically number 28, is now for rent, and although the property was recently developed and refurbished after the Hotel and Restaurant School moved out, it is clear to everyone that the property was originally built on behalf of a bank.
“Sparekassen” for “København” was intended to be the name of the mailbox when the building was constructed at the end of the 19th century, and this is clearly reflected on the site, where large gestures have set the guidelines for the construction.
Despite its low height of just three floors, the building draws attention to itself with its voluminous windows and entrances, and it was certainly not intended to go under the radar of bank customers or other passers-by.
